An inside and outside of an electric car
This emotional sedan began its life as a customary, gasoline-powered 1994 Geo Prism. Here are the modifications that twisted it into an emotional car:
The gasoline engine with the muffler, catalytic converter, tailpipe and gas reservoir, were all severed.
The existing legal transmission was left in place, and it was pinned in instant gear.
A new AC emotional motor was bolted to the transmission using an adapter plate.
An emotional controller was added to restrain the AC motor.
A series tray was installed in the mystify of the car.
Fifty 12-volt lead-acid batteries were located in the series tray (two sets of 25 to create 300 volts DC).
Electric motors were added to right stuff that shabby to get their right from the engine: the water pump, right steering pump, air conditioner.
A vacuum pump was added for the right brakes (which shabby engine vacuum when the car had an engine).
The shifter for the mean transmission was replaced using a swap, disguised as an ordered transmission shifter, to operation redirect and overturn.
A small water heater was added to grant tepid.
A mount was added so that the batteries could be recharged. This particular car actually has two charging systems — one from a slate 120-volt or 240-volt roadblock conduit, and the other from a magna-charge inductive charging propel.
Everything besides regarding the car is standard. When you get in to take the car, you put the key in the explosion and errand it to the “on” section to errand the car on. You assigning into “Drive” using the shifter, thrust on the accelerator pedal and go. The scope of this car is regarding 50 miles (80 km). For 15 seconds the time is 0 to 60 mph. It takes regarding 12 kilowatt-hours of electricity to grade the car after a 50-mile fall. The batteries weigh regarding 1,100 pounds (500 kg). Batteries must have to be changed according to the situation.
To compare the hurt per mile of gasoline cars to this emotional car, here’s an example. Electricity in North Carolina is regarding 8 cents per kilowatt-hour right now (4 cents if you use time-of-use billing and renew at night). That means that for a bursting renew, it expend $1 (or 50 cents using time-of-use billing). The hurt per mile is therefore 2 cents per mile, or 1 cent using time-of-use. If gasoline expend $1.20 per gallon and a car gets 30 miles to the gallon, then the hurt per mile is 4 cents per mile for gasoline.
Clearly, the “fuel” for emotional vehicles expend a lot fewer per mile than it does for gasoline vehicles. And for many, the 50-mile achieve is not a limitation — the mean character living in a city or village rarely drives more than 30 or 40 miles per day.
To be completely illumine, however, we should also enter the follow of cycle replacement. Batteries are the weak bond in exciting cars at the jiffy. cycle replacement for this car runs regarding $2,000. you can use the batteries for more than 2000 miles. link

The biggest problem of electric car is that the battery technology is simply not there yet. I doubt that any current solutions would be as reliable as their mechanical counterpart. A while back I wrote this article (http://www.kerrywong.com/2007/04/30/do-hybrid-cars-really-save-energy/) and voiced similar concerns.
