Keep Your Server in a Closet!

Have you ever experienced this scene before, where you’re walking into your friend/colleague’s house, and you discovered the living room is well-decorated with stylish yet sophisticated furniture? It sounds like a perfect moment for you, until you spotted that the LCD TV and speakers’ wires are crossing from one to another side! It totally spoiled your feeling, when looking on the messy wires.

From this aspect, it’s truly important to hide all the wires and server in a proper place, maybe inside a nice and beautiful server!

Server in a closet

Actually, the closet is playing a crucial factor here, as it will be used to host the phone line, the internet router and a gigabit switch. In this case, you would need a fully-featured yet economic DLNA media server, which must include these specific requirements:

  1. DLNA enabled (It’s for streaming photos/music/video to PS3)

  2. RAID1 (It’s for data security)

  3. It must be remotely managed (Without monitor, keyboard or mouse)

  4. Low power consumption

  5. It can be used for downloading/uploading torrent client, FTP server, printer server and so on.

Frankly, it would be a very awesome project to deal with. However, it does require a lot of time, but you’ll enjoy every second of it!

Good article, yeah - wires definitely kills it. ; ) I came across this new technology recently and thought I'd post it here, in keeping with the DLNA server configs. (Wireless media streaming from your web browser to other connected devices in your home)
