You always fascinated by the beauty of lightning? Ever wish you could count or guess the next lightning started to strike again?

Then, you need to create a lightning distance timer (and a wicked thunderstorm of course!) for yourself.

Materials needed:

  • One Enclosure
  • One 2xAA Battery holder
  • One Battery connector
  • One Switch
  • One Piezo Transducer
  • One 24hr std shockproof digital stopwatch
  • One 10R Resistor
  • One 16V Capacitor
  • One 47k Resistor
  • Two SMT chip resistor
  • One Pushbutton switch
  • One Pushbutton switch
  • One Green LED chip

For this, you need to standby a stopwatch and find a 70kHz crystal for this project. The reason we used 70kHz crystal because it’s closer to the 6.9177Khz required for readout in miles, but its need to differ with a factor of ten.

In order to overcome the shortage of battery problem, we also need to use two1.5V AA batteries. This to be ensuring the LED will stay on even in the dark and keep functioning.
